Calif. School District Sued For Not Reporting Sexual Abuse by Coach |
A lawsuit has been filed accusing a California school district of knowing about sexual abuse by a wrestling coach but failing to report it to the proper authorities. According to the lawsuit, officials at California High in San Ramon received a report from a concerned parent about the abuse. The coach was accused of sexually abusing male and female students and a year later he was arrested and charged with molesting three boys. The lawsuit alleges that the San Ramon Valley Unified School District violated state law by failing to report the abuse to the police or Child Protective Services. VW Problems Continue to Expand |
Fallout from the Volkswagen emissions scandal is spreading across the Houston region, where sales have slipped and a class-action lawsuit is under way in federal court. Two Houston-area residents so far who have signed on to the class-action lawsuit, charging that if they had known about the VW so-called defeat devices, they would have either paid less than they did or they wouldn't have bought or leased any of the affected models. Modifying the vehicles to reach environmental compliance will change their performance and efficiency and cause "actual harm and damages" for owners and lessees, the federal lawsuit alleges. "Once repaired, their vehicles will no longer perform as advertised and as they did when they were acquired, causing a diminution in value," it says. Mike D. Smith, Houston Chronicle 10/22/2015 |

Texas Health Resources Appeals Judge Order in Ebola Nurse Lawsuit |
Texas Health Resources which owns Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, appealed state District Judge Martin Hoffman ruling that temporarily prevents the Texas Workforce Commission from deciding whether the parent company is a co-employer of Nina Pham with the hospital. If THR is ruled a co-employer, Pham's lawsuit would have a more difficult time moving forward because it would be a worker's compensation claim. Jennifer Emily, The Dallas Morning News 10/22/2015 |
