Ten prominent Democratic lawmaker are urging the U.S. secretary of labor to come up with a plan to ensure that state workers' compensation programs are properly caring for injured workers. The lawmakers' letter was prompted by an investigation by ProPublica and NPR, which found that more than 30 states have cut benefits to injured workers, created daunting hurdles to getting medical care or made it more difficult for workers with certain injuries and illnesses to qualify. CO Woman Trapped in Car for Days Sues GM |
Kristin Hopkins spent more than two months in a hospital following a near-fatal crash that left her crushed and trapped upside down in her car for nearly a week. Her legs have been amputated at the knee. Hopkins filed a lawsuit against GM in federal court claiming that her car's electronic stability control "failed to engage" and the car's electronic power steering "gave out". Because of these malfunctions, the suit states that Hopkins was "deprived of these crash avoidance systems at the moment she needed them most." Additionally, the lawsuit claims that based on documents GM provided the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the company first learned of the problem with the electronic stability control on the Malibu in 2008 six years before Hopkins' accident. Johnson & Johnson Prevails in Lawsuit on Tylenol's Risks |
A jury in Atlantic City has handed Johnson & Johnson a victory in a lawsuit alleging that Tylenol, the popular pain reliever, was defectively designed. On Friday, the jury decided the plaintiff, Regina Jackson, hadn't proven she took Extra Strength Tylenol. She had claimed that an overdose of the drug landed her in the hospital. That meant the jury didn't address Jackson's other claims, including whether the margin of safety between a safe dose of Tylenol and a potentially harmful dose is adequate. Jeff Gerth and T.
