A group of small doctor-owned day surgery centers in Colorado has filed an anti-trust lawsuit against Centura and HCA/HealthONE, the dominant hospital chains in the state. According to the suit, the hospitals convinced major insurers to avoid putting the day-surgery centers in their approved networks and threatened any doctors that referred patients to the centers. The hospitals, however, accuses the center of illegally waiving co-pays and deductibles for patients and then passing the costs on to insurers.
