Suit: Boys & Girls Club Hired Felon, Assaulted Girl

A Chicago teenager has filed a lawsuit against the local Boys and Girls Club of American, claiming club officials hired a convicted felon and that man took "nude photos of the two being intimate." The plaintiff, an 18-year-old female, claims that when she was 16, the man told her she could make money "posing for nude photos and as a lingerie model" and then threatened to post the photos he took online. The man has been charged with criminal sexual assault of a minor.

BP Will Pay $4.5B in Settlement with US Government

Oil giant BP says it has agreed to pay $4.5 billion in a wide-ranging settlement with the U.S. government over the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The London based multinational also said in a statement Thursday it agreed to plead guilty to charges including 11 felony counts of misconduct related to the deaths of 11 men in the rig explosion that triggered the oil spill. It also pleaded guilty to a felony count of obstruction of Congress.

Cablevision Sued for $250M Over Sandy Outages

- Cablevision Systems Corp has been accused in a $250 million lawsuit of continuing to bill and failing to offer rebates to more than 1 million customers who lost TV, Internet or phone service because of Hurricane Sandy. The complaint, filed on Tuesday with the New York State Supreme Court in Nassau County, said Cablevision had not met its contractual obligation to offer credits to customers who lost service for more than 24 hours.

Toyota Recalls 2.77 Million Vehicles World-Wide

Toyota Motor Corp. has issued a recall of 2.77 million vehicles around the globe due to steering and water pump problems. Included in the recall are 630,000 Prius hybrid vehicles. The company said the relatively minor defects have caused no accidents so far.

Caffeinated Drink Cited in Reports of 13 Deaths

Federal officials have received reports of 13 deaths over the last four years that cited the possible involvement of 5-Hour Energy, a highly caffeinated energy shot, according to Food and Drug Administration records and an interview with an agency official. The disclosure of the reports is the second time in recent weeks that F.D.A. filings citing energy drinks and deaths have emerged. Last month, the agency acknowledged it had received five fatality filings mentioning another popular energy drink, Monster Energy.

NYC Steakhouse Settles $600,000 Lawsuit

A New York steakhouse has agreed to pay $600,000 to settle a lawsuit that accused a male manager of sexually harassing dozens of male waiters. In the suit, Sparks Steak House allegedly failed to stop "manager’s abuse of 22 waiters over a nearly eight-year period," which included lewd comments and inappropriate contact. The suit also claimed restaurant officials ignored complaints from waiters.

Suit Filed over Tablet Storage Size Claims

A Los Angeles man has filed a lawsuit against Microsoft over storage claims for the Microsoft Surface tablet. In his suit, the plaintiff says "the Surface does not have the 32 GB of storage Microsoft advertises" because the tablet uses up about half of its storage for its operating system. The lawsuit isn't seeking damages but rather demands that Microsoft stop misrepresenting "the Surface's features and refund buyers of the tablet."

Judge Finds Man Liable in Suit over Woman's Murder

A Kentucky judge has found a former state lawmaker liable in a wrongful death lawsuit for the murder of the man's one-time fiancee. The judge's decision will allow the woman's family to pursue damages from Stephen R. Nunn. Nunn is currently serving a life sentence after admitting to killing the woman in 2009.
