Suit over Botched 911 Call Revived

spacer image

The Washington state Supreme Court has ruled that a lawsuit against Skagit County over a delayed response to a 911 call can proceed. A local man called 911 in October 2005 after his drunken neighbor began shooting at him; the 911 dispatcher told the man to hide and wait because an officer was on his way. However, the suit says, the dispatcher failed to log the call as an emergency, and it took an officer almost 20 minutes to arrive on the scene. By then the man had been shot and killed. The man's family is seeking unspecified damages in the suit.
