J&J Asks 5th Circ. To Toss $151M Hip Verdict Over Expert Pay |
Johnson & Johnson and its DePuy Orthopaedics Inc. unit told the Fifth Circuit in a brief unsealed this week theyâ??re entitled to a new trial in a hip implant bellwether that ended in a $151 million judgment against the company, claiming the plaintiffs lied about paying their expert witnesses. The companies, which have separately appealed the judgment, are also appealing U.S. District Judge Ed Kinkeadeâ??s decision to deny their motion for a new trial in the second of three bellwether trials. J&J, Bayer Not Responsible for Negative Effects of Blood-Thinning Drug |
On Wednesday a federal jury cleared Johnson & Johnson and Bayer AG of any wrong doing related to the blood-thinning drug Xarelto. A Louisiana man had sued the two companies claiming that Xarelto caused him to have internal bleeding and other medical problems. The federal jury found that J&J and Bayer did not mislead the man or his doctors about the blood-thinning drug and its health risks. 1.2 Million Vehicles Recalled Over Possible Engine Failure |
Kia and Hyundai have recalled 1.2 million vehicles for possible engine failure in some 2013 and 2014 SUV models. The vehicles included in the recall are the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport SUV and Sonata midsize cars. According to the two manufacturers the possible engine failure is a result of debris left behind during the manufacturing process. Family of Firefighter Killed on Bike Awarded $39M Verdict |
A $39M verdict has been awarded to the family of a Houston, Texas firefighter who was killed while riding his bike. The massive verdict was awarded three years after the man was killed.
