Lawsuit: LSU Disciplines Greeks Differently, Posing Greater Risks to Males

Louisian a State University is facing a lawsuit alleging that it disciplines its fraternities and sororities differently. According to the lawsuit, the university engages in a practice of discrimination by policing sorority hazing more strictly than fraternity hazing. As a result, male students are forced to seek benefits of Greek Life with greater risk of injury. The lawsuit was filed by the parents of a student who died of alcohol poisoning at a fraternity event.

Tesla Pedestrian Lawsuit Could Disrupt Technology's Progress

A lawsuit filed against Tesla over the autopilot-engaged death of a pedestrian could lead to disruption of the technology's progress. Filed in the U.S. District Court of Northern California, the lawsuit alleges that a Tesla Model X using Autopilot struck and killed a pedestrian in April 2018. Tesla is likely to deny liability in the crash, as it has previously argued that the human driver that is behind the wheel of a Tesla is responsible, even if the autopilot feature is engaged.

Over 700 New Cases of Coronavirus Reported After Testing at Meatpacking Plants in Amarillo Region

More than 700 new coronavirus cases were reported in the Amarillo region Saturday, as results from targeted testing at meatpacking plants came in. According to the office of the governor, a surge response team was deployed in Amarillo on May 4 to survey high-risk locations and test workers at meatpacking plants. The Texas Panhandle, where a workforce of Hispanics and immigrants power several meatpacking plants, is home to the highest rates of infection in the state.

Oregon Nursing Home with Nearly 30 COVID-19 Deaths Facing $1.8M Lawsuit
 
An Oregon nursing home with nearly 30 COVID-19 deaths is now facing a $1.8 million wrongful death lawsuit. Healthcare at Foster Creek is accused in the complaint of negligence that led to the death of a 75-year-old resident. The lawsuit was filed by the woman's daughter against St. Jude Operating Co., the nursing home owner, and Benicia Senior Living, the management company.

Mississippi Press Association Sues for Names of Facilities with COVID-19 Outbreaks
 
The Mississippi Press Association is seeking the names of long-term care homes where COVID-19 has spread. The Mississippi State Health Department, which has been withholding the names of the facilities, is named as defendant in the complaint. The lawsuit comes as State Health Officer Thomas Dobbs is rolling out a plan to test 27,000 long-term care home employees and residents for COVID-19 in the next couple of weeks.
