A joint statement was issued on Friday by both sides stating that the settlement was "long overdue." The lawsuit was filed nine years ago and sought $40 million for the women who was married to her 19-year-old cousin as a 14-year-old. The ceremony was presided over by Warren Jeffs, the leader of the FLDS Church. Jeffs is currently serving a life sentence in a Texas prison for sexually assaulting two underage polygamous brides. The lawsuit was filed against the owner of the Century 16 Theater multiplex in Aurora, where 12 people were killed and dozens were injured in the shooting. A six-member jury was chosen for the trial, which was scheduled to begin opening statements today. Over two dozen individuals, including surviving victims and relatives of the dead, have filed suit against Cinemark USA Inc and the cinema's property owners over the incident.
