Facebook will face a lawsuit targeting its photo-tagging feature that uses facial recognition technology. U.S. District Judge James Donato in San Francisco recently rejected Facebook's request to have the lawsuit dismissed. The lawsuit will continue under an Illinois law that bans collecting and storing biometric data without explicit consent. Google was hit with a similar lawsuit in March which targets its facial tagging system. The Biometric Information Privacy Act was passed in Illinois in 2008 and requires companies to obtain consent from consumers before collecting or storing biometric data.
