Supreme Court Rejects Appeal in Shareholder Suit Against BP |
The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined a request from shareholders seeking to revive their class action lawsuit against BP claiming the oil company misrepresented its safety procedures prior to the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The court left in place a September 2015 ruling by the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that refused to certify the lawsuit filed by investors who bought shares in the 2-1/2 years before the spill. BP's share price plummeted after the disaster that has cost the company more than $55 billion. LAWRENCE HURLEY, Reuters 05/02/2016 |

Nearly 4 million Nissan cars are being recalled due to major safety problems where passenger air bags or seat belts could fail in a crash. Dole Knew About Listeria Problem at Salad Plant, F.D.A. Report Says |
The Dole Food Company knew it had a listeria problem in one of its salad plants more than a year before it closed in January, according to a FDA report. The report obtained through the FOIA shows that products in the plant tested positive for listeria nine times before F.D.A. inspectors showed up to do a test. Four people have died after becoming ill so far in the outbreak, and 33 more across the US and Canada have become so sick they have spent time in a hospital. Dole said the Justice Department was investigating. STEPHANIE STROM, The New York Times 05/02/2016 |

Quaker Oats Faces Potential Class Action Suit Over "100% Natural" Claims |
A potential class action lawsuit has been filed against Quaker Oats alleging that it falsely advertised its products as "100% natural." According to the lawsuit, the company made false claims about the product being all-natural, when a test revealed the pesticide glyphosate in some oatmeal tested. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of consumers in New York and California and seeks class action status. Contrary to how the oatmeal is actually produced, Quaker Oats reports that "its products are grown in an environmentally responsible way," the lawsuit contends. The lawsuit was filed in Federal District Courts in New York and California. Stephanie Strom, The New York Times 05/01/2016 |
