Carnival Cruise Passengers File Lawsuit Over Ship Fire | | Passengers who were aboard a Carnival cruise ship which caught fire and floated adrift for days have filed a lawsuit seeking $5,000 a month for the rest of their lives. The ship caught fire on a February 2013 journey from Cozumel, Mexico to Galveston, Texas and was left without engine power, or air conditioning and working toilets. Former Football Player Files Lawsuit Against School | | A former football player for the University of Iowa has filed a lawsuit alleging the university’s negligence caused him physical and mental harm during a high-intensity workout. The plaintiff was one of thirteen players hospitalized after the 2011 practice. The lawsuit contends that "coaches and trainers failed to properly supervise and monitor him during the workout and failed to offer prompt medical care after he and others reported severe pain." Estate of Man Killed by Train Files Lawsuit | | The Norfolk Southern Railway Co. is facing a lawsuit filed by the estate of a man who was fatally injured when he was hit by a train in Muncie, Ind. According to the lawsuit, the train company "did not exercise reasonable care in the management, maintenance, supervision, set-up, direction and/or control of the railroad crossing where [the man] was killed." Family of Dallas Woman Killed Over Dog Droppings Files Suit | | Two months after a Dallas man was convicted of capital murder for killing his neighbors over dog droppings, the family of one of the victims is seeking compensation for the five young children she left behind. The family of 31-year-old Michelle Jackson has filed a lawsuit in civil court asking for more than $1 million for Jackson’s children, ages 1 to 12, and her mother, who is raising the youngest child. The suit was filed against Chung Kim, who is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for killing Jackson and her fiance. Kim’s wife, the homeowners association for their apartment complex and its president are listed as co-defendants. Homeowners Seek up to $25M in Damages From EagleRidge | | Forty-three homeowners in the Vintage and Meadows at Hickory Creek neighborhoods have filed a lawsuit against EagleRidge Energy, seeking up to $25 million in damages for creating what the suit claims are nuisances that have diminished the value of their properties. The suit was filed in state district court in Denton, TX by the owners of 25 homes in the two neighborhoods, which are close to natural gas drilling operations by EagleRidge. Families Plunge Back into Grief with GM Recalls | | GM's recall last month of 1.62 million vehicles worldwide tore open old wounds for him and others.The company says faulty ignition switches that caused the engine to inadvertently turn off and disabled the airbags had claimed the lives of 13 people and caused 31 crashes. Further, the automaker had known about the problem since 2004 but didn't issue a recall until a decade later. House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton, R.
