Owners of the 475,000 Volkswagen vehicles with 2-liter diesels will receive from $5,100 to $10,000. In addition, Volkswagen will either repair their cars to bring them into compliance with emissions laws or buy them back in order to scrap them, according to released details.

Settlement Ends Trial in Deadly 2012 Oil Platform Fire

A settlement has been reached in a trial combining 10 lawsuits arising from a deadly explosion and fire on an offshore oil platform in November 2012. The accident off the Louisiana coast killed three workers and injured several others on a platform owned by Texas-based Black Elk Energy.

Lawsuit: Woman Died After Doctor Used Unapproved Bone Cement in Spinal Surgery

A malpractice lawsuit has been filed against a doctor who used unapproved bone cement in the spinal surgery of a Washington state woman. She died on the operating table after the surgeon used the bone cement which had not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The lawsuit contends that the doctor and the bone cement company Synthes conspired to commit a criminal act by using the unapproved cement, leading to the woman's death.

Ikea is recalling 29 million chests and dressers after six children were killed when the furniture fell on them. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says that at least six children, all of whom were 3 years old or younger, were killed when an Ikea chest or dresser fell on them.
