Mom Files Suit Over Fatal Fall at Lakers Game

A woman whose 2-year-old son fell to his death at a Los Angeles Lakers game in November has filed a wrongful death and negligence suit against the Staples Center. Attorneys filed the request after the mother admitted she set the boy on the ledge in a luxury box to take his picture. L.A. Teacher, School to Pay $4.5 Million in Molestation Suit

A jury in Carlsbad, Calif., has awarded $4.5 million to two local girls who were allegedly molested by their elementary school teacher from 2006 to 2008. After a month-long trial, the jury determined the teacher to be 60 percent responsible, with the other 40 percent falling on the school district. The teacher pleaded guilty in 2010 to two counts of sexual battery and spent 22 months in prison.  J. Harry Jones, San Diego Union Tribune  06/19/2012

Inmate Denied HIV Medication, Suit Says

A Chicago inmate has filed a lawsuit against the Bureau County jail for allegedly denying him his prescription HIV medication for a week while he was incarcerated. The plaintiff claims in his suit that prison officials refused to provide him medication, and would not let him take medication brought from home because it was not in its original bottle. LinkedIn Hit with Class Action Suit over Data Breach

A class action lawsuit has been filed against networking site LinkedIn over a recent data breach in which thousands of passwords were stolen by hackers. The suit, which seeks $5 million, claims the company "failed to protect its members' data" and violated its own privacy policy and user agreements.  Staff Report, United Press International  06/19/2012

Police Shooting at Duke Hospital Prompts Lawsuit

A lawsuit has been filed against Duke University and two school police officers over a fatal 2010 shooting near the school's hospital. The man was shot at the entrance to the hospital, and the suit claims the officers used "unreasonable force" during the confrontation.
