County Settles Sexual Assault Lawsuit

Officials in Jackson County, Mo., have approved a settlement to end a lawsuit filed by a woman who claimed she was sexually abused by a deputy in 2007. The deputy named in the suit is currently serving a 14-year sentence after pleading guilty to "statutory sodomy and deviate sexual assault." Suit: Hotel Under Scrutiny for Hiring Process

A lawsuit has been brought against the Tuscany Hotel and Casino LLC in Las Vegas over claims that the hotel was "overzealous" in checking non-citizen work documents. The suit claims that during the hiring process, hotel officials discriminated against non-U.S. citizens by forcing them "to provide more or different documents than is required."  Wire Report, Las Vegas Sun  06/05/2012

Struggles Predicted for Suits Against NY Soda Ban

Experts say that if groups attempt to file suits to block a new law in New York banning large-sized sodas, they may face an uphill battle in the court system. Harvard law professor Michelle Mello said that many states put restrictions on products sold in-state, and that it would be "hard to believe that this would be singled out as unreasonable by a court." Salmonella Death in California Prompts Lawsuit

A lawsuit has been filed over the death of a Northern California man who died in 2010 after eating salmonella-laced eggs. The suit, filed by the man's son, names Wright County Egg and El Rancho Steakhouse as defendants. The defendants are accused of negligently failing to ensure the eggs sold were safe to eat.  Paul T.
