Sign the petition NOW - Tell TDI No!
ALERT: Please take a minute to sign this petition from our friends at Texas Watch urging TDI to reject the insurance industry's attempt to buy the rights of Texas homeowners. The rights of homeowners are under attack. At least one Texas insurance company is actively negotiating with the state insurance commissioner over new language that would subject homeowners to pre-dispute binding arbitration when the company low, slow, or no pays valid insurance claims. A decision on this key issue is imminent. Click on the headline to sign the petition. ________________________________________

Hurricane Ike Contractor Case Goes to Texas Supreme Court
spacer image
The Texas Supreme Court will decide whether a Beaumont construction company can sue the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission for money it says it is still owed for rebuilding homes after Hurricane Ike. Byrdson Services, one of several contractors hired by the commission after the 2008 storm, seeks to settle a two-year dispute about payment of a portion of $3.5 million it says the planning commission made in profit. The court will decide whether the commission was in breach of its contract, an accusation the commission claims it is immune from because of the local government code.

A number of New York Uber drivers and the New York Taxi Workers Alliance have filed a lawsuit alleging that Uber is guilty of wage theft. The class action lawsuit was filed in New York on Thursday and contends that Uber drivers are losing income because they have to cover sales tax and worker's compensation fees. The lawsuit is similar to many others filed across the country against ride-sharing companies Uber and Lyft in that it alleges the drivers have been wrongfully classified as independent contractors.
