TX Man Files Suit Over Waco Biker Shootout Arrest

A Texas man who was arrested during the recent biker shootout in Waco, Texas has filed a lawsuit alleging that he was illegally arrested. The 30-year-old man, who is a member of the Scimitars Motorcycle Club, was at the Twin Peaks restaurant where 170 people were arrested after the shootout that killed nine people on May 17. The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Waco and alleges that the plaintiff "did not encourage or solicit any criminal activity at Twin Peaks that day." Bail for each of the individuals arrested was set at $1 million.

Va. Woman Files Suit After Crash Involving Ambien

A Virginia woman who was involved in a crash after she took a type of Ambien and then drove a vehicle has filed a lawsuit against the city of Virginia Beach and one of its employees. The lawsuit was filed in Circuit Court and alleges that the woman was under the influence of her prescribed medication, which she believed she took properly, when she crashed into the back of another vehicle. The plaintiff and a 4-year-old passenger were injured in the accident. After the accident, the plaintiff was convicted of driving while intoxicated. The medication is known to cause "sleep driving," sleep walking and memory loss, according to the lawsuit.

Kansas Mother Alleges False Child Abuse Complaint by Diocese

The Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kansas is facing a lawsuit by a woman from Shawnee who alleges that the diocese filed a false child abuse complaint against her. The complaint was filed against the woman by the diocese after the plaintiff complained that her daughter was being bullied at school. The lawsuit was filed in Johnson County District Court and contends that after the mother complained about the alleged bullying, the diocese lodged a false complaint stating that she requested an exorcism for her daughter. The mother's lawsuit alleges defamation, invasion of privacy and malicious prosecution and seeks unspecified damages.

Navy Vet Sues Over Surgery on Wrong Bone in Foot at VA Hospital

A Navy veteran has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit alleging that a doctor at the Hampton VA Medical Center in Virginia performed surgery on the wrong bone in his foot. The $2 million lawsuit was filed last week and alleges that the doctor installed a plate and three screws on the wrong bone in the plaintiff's right foot. The plaintiff first went to the hospital in July with pain in his foot. After another visit in August, the doctor recommended and performed immediate surgery. Weeks later, it was discovered that the surgery was performed on the wrong bone in the plaintiff's foot. The lawsuit seeks $2.15 million from the federal government.
