Can General Contractors Be Held Liable for Subcontractors' Work-Related Injury? | | Normally, work injuries are handled through workers compensation insurance. However, this may not apply when a subcontractor is injured due to the actions of a general contractor. Because the subcontractor is their own employer, they are not entitled to workers compensation benefits from the general contractor and are able to file suit. According to New Jersey law, there is a two-year statute of limitations for cases in which a subcontractor files a personal injury lawsuit against a general contractor. Richard P.
