On Monday, Judge Jed Rakoff in U.S. District in Manhattan banned Uber Technologies Inc and its Chief Executive Travis Kalanick from using the information they obtained in a background check. In his ruling, Judge Rakoff stated that the firm that conducted the investigation engaged in "arguably" criminal conduct. According to Rakoff, Uber was attempting to intimidate the plaintiff by digging up derogatory information about him and his attorney. The lawsuit was filed by a woman who alleges the school failed to protect her after she was sexually assaulted by school athletes. The lawsuit is now alleging that another woman was gang raped by football players in 2011. The lawsuit was originally filed in March and was amended last week to include the most recent claims. According to the lawsuit, filed in the Superior Court of Los Angeles, the 27-year-old plaintiff was sexually assaulted by her driver after he gave her water tainted with drugs and then assaulted her when she was passed out. The driver was arrested and charged with rape of an unconscious person and assault with intent to commit rape. The lawsuit filed against Uber Technologies alleges the company "aggressively promotes its safety � [but] instead of delivering Plaintiff a safe ride to her destination, Uber introduced Plaintiff to her rapist ' her Uber driver." The lawsuit cited one incident in which a gun fired when dropped despite the fact that the safety was engaged. U.S. District Court Judge Patricia A. Seitz, of Miami, Florida approved the settlement of the case. As part of the settlement, Taurus will repair or replace nearly one million pistols that plaintiffs claimed are defective.
