A group of Uber drivers filed the lawsuit seeking to be classified as employees of the ride-sharing company. However, Uber claims that most of its drivers do not want that classification as it would bring more structure to the job. According to Uber, its drivers might have to have set schedules and not be able to continue at their other jobs if they are considered Uber employees. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of a couple from Tennessee who were among 5,000 individuals evacuated from the train in East Tennessee on July 1. The CSX train car was carrying acrylonitrile, a hazardous material used in multiple industrial processes, when it derailed, forcing the evacuation of thousands. According to the attorney who filed the lawsuit, the couple is seeking evacuation expenses and they will be pursuing class action status. The family filed the lawsuit alleging a violation of the girl's Fourth Amendment right against aggressive search and seizure. The 17-year-old was shot and killed by police after she threatened officers with a weapon in January. On June 26, a grand jury decided not to take action against the three officers involved in the shooting. The family's lawsuit is seeking $10 million in compensation.
