Cars Without Drivers to Hit Streets Soon in Arlington, Other Texas Cities |
Arlington is one of several Texas cities to be designated a "national Automated Vehicle Proving Ground" by the U.S. Department of Transportation, which is set to launch in January 2018. Teen Burglar Burned by Squad Car During Chase Sues Temple Police |
The family of a teenager (Kaylem Gonzalez) who suffered third-degree burns while pinned beneath a patrol car after running from police has filed an excessive-force suit against two officers and the city of Temple. The federal lawsuit, filed last week in the Western District Court of Texas, says Gonzalez suffered third-degree burns on his torso, thighs and pelvis while pinned beneath the running vehicle for 10 minutes. Lawsuit Alleges Design Flaw in Louisville Slugger Bats |
A class action lawsuit was filed on Monday in U.S. District Court in Chicago over an alleged design flaw in the Louisville Slugger Prime BBCOR bat. The lawsuit was filed against Wilson Sporting Goods by a father who purchased the baseball bat for his high-school-age son. As alleged in the lawsuit, the bat has a design flaw that allows the bat's handle to move independently of the barrel. The plaintiff alleges that the issue with the handle and barrel "decrease[s] the power and detract[s] from the performance of the bats." Wilson has reportedly denied warranty coverage on the bat. Football Coach Let Go Following Lawsuit Over Player's Death |
An assistant football coach at the University of California at Berkeley was let go by the school following the settlement of a wrongful death lawsuit. The lawsuit was filed by the family of a college football player who was killed during a drill devised by the assistant coach. The player collapsed at died during a practice in Feb. 2014 and the school paid $4.75 million to his family in the wrongful-death suit. Many people called for the coach's firing, but his contract was extended until the head coach was fired. All of the other coach's assistants were also let go at that time.
