Uber Wants Court Stamp on Arbitration Win as Hint to Drivers

Uber Technologies Inc. is asking a California judge to grant a stamp of approval on what it says is the first decision by an arbitrator denying a driverâ??s bid to be treated as an employee instead of an independent contractor. It could be the first of many such rulings after a federal appeals courtâ??s decision last year that most Uber drivers can be forced by the company to resolve disputes through binding arbitration.

US Judge Approves Volkswagen Dealers $1.2B Settlement

Volkswagen dealers will receive an average of $1.85 million in a $1.2 billion settlement approved by a U.S. judge on Monday over its diesel emissions scandal. U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer said the 650 U.S. dealers would be paid over 18 months, ruling the settlement "fair, reasonable, and adequate."
