The plaintiff's husband was driving his 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee in Ontario last year when he was rear-ended by another driver. He died after becoming trapped in the car after it almost immediately caught fire. According to the complaint, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration instructed Fiat Chrysler to recall Grand Cherokee models from 1993 to 1998 due to concerns about gas tanks catching on fire. Fiat Chrysler did not recall any models later than 1998, despite data that showed the cars also had gas tank issues, the lawsuit alleges.
