Judge Tosses Out Lawsuit Alleging Paxil Causes Birth Defects
spacer image
A lawsuit alleging that the drug Paxil causes cardiovascular birth defects has been tossed out by a federal judge in Connecticut. The lawsuit was filed against GlaxoSmithKline and alleged that the antidepressant caused birth defects. The case was dismissed after it was found that the plaintiffs' expert witness testimony on general and specific causation was inadmissible. Further, the court found that there was not enough evidence to show that the plaintiff was taking the medication during her pregnancy or that the medication caused the birth defect.
