Texas Woman Files Excessive Force Suit | | Two Texas sheriff's deputies and one police officer have been named in a lawsuit alleging excessive force. The lawsuit was filed by a Jefferson, Texas woman after the officers made a stop at her home for a routine welfare check. The plaintiff alleges that during the visit to her home, the officers "arrested her without probable cause, searched her home without a warrant and used a stun gun on her multiple times after taking her to the county jail." The lawsuit alleged that supervisory staff and participating mortgage bankers cultivated a sexist and uncivil atmosphere with sexual behavior and comments. It further alleged that the female employees who did not join in the sexual behavior were denied sales opportunities and other benefits. The $1.45 million settlement is to be divided among the 16 plaintiffs.
