Wrongfully Imprisoned Woman Files Lawsuit

A wrongfully convicted Orlando woman has filed a lawsuit against the city, the police officer who investigated her case and a local public defender for their roles in her conviction. The woman was jailed last year for felony property crime that she had nothing to do with, her suit says. The plaintiff claims police conducted "less than thorough" work and that witnesses mistook her for another woman with similar features.  Anthony Colarossi, Orlando Sentinel  12/19/2011

Boy's Drowning at Summer Camp Prompts Lawsuit

A wrongful-death lawsuit has been filed over the drowning of a Michigan boy at a local summer camp last year. According to the lawsuit, the boy had gone swimming after dark in an area of the lake not supervised by lifeguards. The boy went under, and it was 30 minutes before camp employees and police were able to find him.  Ryan Haggerty, Chicago Tribune  12/20/2011

Jury Awards $12 Million in Defamation Lawsuit

An Arizona jury has awarded $12 million to two Scottsdale doctors in a defamation lawsuit filed against a former patient. The suit claimed the patient posted "false information" on the internet about the doctors after she developed an infection after having a nose job. The doctors claimed the comments she posted "harmed their medical practice and contributed to a steep drop in the number of patients."  Staff Report, Claims Journal  12/19/2011
