Judge Allows Tracy Morgan's Lawsuit Against Wal-Mart to Move Forward | | A federal judge has refused to delay actor Tracy Morgan's lawsuit against Wal-Mart over a fatal crash this summer. Although he is not named in the lawsuit, the driver of the Wal-Mart truck that slammed into the back of Morgan's limo van sought to delay the lawsuit until the criminal case against him is resolved. The U.S. District judge ruled that the driver failed to show that he required "emergent relief" and is allowing the lawsuit to move forward. The crash took place in June when the Wal-Mart truck crashed into the back of the actor's limousine. One of the passengers, comedian James McNair, was killed in the accident. $3M Settlement Over Woman Found dead in S.F. General Stairwell | | San Francisco and the University of California have tentatively agreed to pay a total of $3 million to settle a claim filed by the family of a woman whose body was found in a San Francisco General Hospital stairwell 17 days after she disappeared from her room last year. Lynne Spalding, 57, was admitted to the hospital on Sept. 19, 2013, suffering from a bladder infection. The family’s claim blamed the hospital and the Sheriff’s Department, which provides security at San Francisco General, for multiple failures related to her care and the abortive search after she vanished Sept. 21. Spalding’s body was not found until Oct. 8, during a routine stairwell check. That discovery came four days after a doctor reported to a nurse that he had seen a woman slumped in a stairwell. No one searched for her at that time, however. Jaxon Van Derbeken, San Francisco Chronicle 12/15/2014 | Read Article: San Francisco Chronicle |
MLB Exec Files Gender Discrimination Lawsuit | | An executive at the commissioner of Major League Baseball's office has filed a lawsuit alleging gender discrimination. The director of baseball initiatives alleges in her lawsuit that she has received unfair performance reviews and has been passed up for promotions by her superior, former MLB player Frank Robinson. The lawsuit contends that Bud Selig and other higher-ups at MLB's headquarters have created a "boys club" that passes up qualified women for positions in favor of underqualified men. The plaintiff is seeking damages to be determined at trial. Stephen Rex Brown, New York Daily News 12/11/2014 | Read Article: New York Daily News |
