The recall covers 1.1 million F-150, F-250 and Lincoln Blackwood pickups. The models involved were sold in cold-weather states where road salt can cause straps metal straps holding up the tanks to rust. If the straps break, the tanks can hit the ground, rupture and catch fire. Associated Press, The Washington Post 08/02/2011 | Read Article: The Washington Post | Feds Adds Mercury Milan to its Probe of Ford Fusion Problems | | The government has added the Mercury Milan to an investigation into reports of wheel studs breaking on some 2010 model Ford Fusion sedans. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the investigation now affects more than 317,000 of the midsize sedans, which are essentially the same car.Wheel studs are the bolts that hold the wheel to the car. The agency has received 29 complaints about the studs breaking, including four cases of wheels becoming separated from the car. The company said the issue could lead to a burst hose at the steering gear and the sudden loss of power steering, increasing the chances of an accident. Company officials said they have not received any reports of accidents or injuries directly linked to the defect. Ben Klayman, Reuters 07/29/2011 | Read Article: Reuters | Laws/Cases | | | Judge Tosses Wrongful Death Lawsuit | | The city of Beverly, Mass., and three local police officers are not liable for the 2005 suicide of a local teen, a federal judge ruled last week. After receiving a call saying the teen was threatening to kill herself, three officers convinced her to go to a local hospital. They dropped her off with her father, but did not see to it that she was admitted, which the lawsuit claims was an error of judgment by the officers. The suit claimed the officers were "deliberately indifferent" to the girl's needs and violated her 14th Amendment rights; however, the judge ruled the officers did not violate any law.
