A Waco mother and her two sons who were injured almost three years ago when a Sanderson Farms truck slammed into the back of their car settled their lawsuit with the chicken processing company Thursday for $27.5 million. Judge Vicki Menard of Wacoâ??s 414th State District Court approved the agreement during a short hearing that came after the parties in the case had been through two mediation sessions. One of the boys was 2 weeks old at the time of the accident and suffered severe brain damage that likely will leave him incapacitated for the rest of his life. The boy, who is almost 3 now, cannot speak, walk or crawl.

Mother Blames S.C. and Social Services for Death of 5 Children

The state of South Carolina and the Lexington County Department of Social Services are facing a lawsuit by the mother of five children who were killed by their father. The lawsuit accuses the defendants of wrongful death in placing the children in the custody of their father. The man has been charged with five counts of murder in the strangling deaths of his children, who range in age from 1 to 8 years old. According to authorities, the man killed the children in South Carolina in 2014 but drove around for nine days before dumping their bodies in a field in rural Alabama. The man was arrested at a traffic checkpoint in Mississippi. The mother is seeking damages for the "wrongful deaths and conscious pain and suffering of her children."

Mother Hopes for New Investigation Into Daycare Death Following $250K Award
spacer image
A Kansas mother hopes that a new investigation will be launched into the death of her 5-month-old son after she was awarded $250,000 in a wrongful death lawsuit in Shawnee County District Court. The court ordered three individuals who were with the child at the daycare facility when he died to pay the $250,000 to the mother. No charges were filed in the child's death, but the detective who investigated the death has been placed on administrative leave following claims of falsified affidavits. The detective was placed on leave in Sept. 2015 after allegations surfaced that she "included information in narratives and charging affidavits that wasnâ??t true."
