Washington Facing Lawsuit After Now-Paralyzed Toddler Placed with Abusive Man

The state of Washington has been named in a lawsuit on behalf of a toddler who was beaten so severely she became paralyzed. The lawsuit was filed by the girl's guardian ad litem against the Department of Social and Health Services, which placed the girl with a man who had previously choked his wife and who physically abused the girl. The lawsuit was filed Wednesday in Pierce County Superior Court. According to the lawsuit, the state never verified the man's paternity, despite a Pierce County Juvenile Court ordering paternity testing. The complaint also details that the man had a more extensive criminal history than he reported to DSHS, which was never verified. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages on behalf of the young girl.Â

Asian Man Bumped from American Airlines Flight Files Discrimination Lawsuit

A man of Korean descent has filed a lawsuit against American Airlines alleging that he was bumped from a 2016 flight in order to make room for white passengers. The 75-year-old man alleges in the lawsuit that he was told he could not board a flight for which he had purchased a ticket. However, according to the lawsuit, "5-7 white passengers behind him were allowed onto the plane flying from Dallas to Corpus Christi. The plaintiff alleges that the incident "humiliated, embarrassed and scared him" and he is seeking $6 million from the airline.

Man Dragged Off United Flight Prepares to File Suit

The Kentucky man forcibly removed from a United Airlines flight is preparing to file suit against the airline. Attorneys for the man have filed a motion in Cook County (Ill.) Circuit Court asking United to keep surveillance videos, cockpit voice recordings, incident reports, and passenger, crew and employee lists. The man was dragged off the plane by United employees when he refused to give up his paid-for seat in order to make room for United crew members on the flight. The man was reportedly thrown against a metal armrest and dragged down the aisle of the plane by employees of the Chicago Aviation Department.

Hollywood Actress Settles 'Revenge Porn' Lawsuit

A television and film actress, who has remained anonymous, has settled a revenge porn lawsuit against various individuals responsible for distributing nude photos of her. The woman, who became engaged in 2014, says the personal photos of her from a previous relationship were distributed by the defendants around the time of her engagement. The lawsuit was filed in January 2016 and sought unspecified damages and an injunction barring further distribution of the images. Court papers detailing the settlement were filed with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Teresa Beaudet on March 30. The details of the settlement have not been released.

13 Arrested in Texas Football Hazing Case, Lawsuit Filed

Texas' La Vernia school district is facing a hazing lawsuit by the parents of a high school football player who was the victim of sexual assault. The lawsuit alleges that the 15-year-old student was subjected to sexual assault by his fellow students a total of five times between 2015-2017. The lawsuit filed by the athlete's family seeks damages awarded for medical expenses, pain, anguish, loss of wages and punitive damages. 13 students have been arrested in connection with the hazing incidents included in the lawsuit so far.
