Supreme Court Dismisses Church Petition Challenging Stay-at-Home
Order |
|
The Texas
Supreme Court this week dismissed a petition filed by church leaders who
alleged the state's stay-at-home order violates the First Amendment. The
petition was filed by three Houston-area pastors and a conservative activist.
The plaintiffs asked to dismiss the case after Gov. Greg Abbott announced last
week that churches are an essential service and can remain open.

Files Appeal in Lawsuit Over Student's Suicide |
|
The
family of a Pennsylvania student who committed suicide will file an appeal in
their lawsuit against the Milton Hershey School. The eight grader took her own
life after the school disenrolled her and barred her from attending a school
ceremony. According to the family, the trauma of being removed from the school
the girl had attended since kindergarten contributed to her suicide. The
appeal was filed in U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit.

Urges States to OK Limited Law Practice Without Bar Exam |
|
The
American Bar Association Board of Governors approved a resolution late Tuesday
that urges states to immediately adopt emergency rules authorizing recent law
graduates unable to take a bar exam because of the coronavirus pandemic to
engage in limited practice of law. The ABA board resolution seeks to allow
2019 and 2020 graduates of association-approved law schools to practice under
the supervision of a licensed attorney, if the July bar exam in their
jurisdiction is canceled or postponed due to concerns about the virus,
according to an ABA statement.
