The prison clerk's lawsuit alleged that prison officials allowed her attacker, a 36-year-old sex offender, to work close to her, despite his history of violent sexual offenses. She also alleges that there were half the required number of prison guards on duty the day of her attack. Staff Report, NBC 10 Philadelphia 09/24/2014 | Read Article: NBC 10 Philadelphia |
Class Action Lawsuit Filed Over Whiskey Fraud | | A class action lawsuit filed in late August accuses whiskey-maker Templeton Rye of violating consumer protection laws by misleading customers about the drink's origins. According to the lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court, Templeton Rye has marketed their whiskey by informing consumers that "the founders were inspired by the Prohibition-era recipe of Alphonse Kerkhoff handed down through his family on a scrap of paper." It was revealed in August that the whiskey, which the company told consumers was a craft whiskey from Iowa, is actually created using a stock recipe in Indiana. The lawsuit has not specified an amount of damages. Grant Rodgers, USA Today 09/24/2014 | Read Article: USA Today |
Parents Sue University Over Son's Drowning Death | | The parents of a Kentucky boy who drowned in a pool at Transylvania University have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the school. The lawsuit, filed in Fayette Circuit Court on Monday, contends that the school's negligence led to the 13-year-old boy's drowning death in June. The boy lost consciousness while swimming in the pool on June 23 and remained unnoticed for an extended period of time. The lawsuit accuses the school of fostering a "culture of disregard as to swimming pool safety" which led to the boy's death. The lawsuit seeks a jury trial, punitive damages and an admission of negligence by the defendants. Jim Warren, Lexington Herald-Leader 09/24/2014 | Read Article: Lexington Herald-Leader | |
