ITT Technical Institute Faces More Lawsuits |
The for-profit college chain ITT Technical Institute is facing more lawsuits from employees following its decision to shut down. The Indianapolis Star reports that two new lawsuits say the company violated federal law by not providing 60 days' notice. Another lawsuit earlier this week sought class-action status on behalf of the 8,000 employees who are losing their jobs as a result of ITT's decision to shut down more than 130 ITT Technical Institute campuses in 38 states. Former Hospital Resident Fired After Cancer Diagnosis, Says Lawsuit |
George Washington (GW) Hospital in Washington, DC, is facing a lawsuit by a former employee who alleges she was fired after being diagnosed with cancer. According to the complaint, filed by the former psychiatry resident in July, the hospital began to "engage in a pattern of discriminatory conduct" after the plaintiff was diagnosed with kidney cancer. The lawsuit alleges that she was dismissed from her residency program in May 2016 and subsequently lost her job. Among the allegations listed in the complaint, is an instance in which the plaintiff was allegedly denied trauma counseling after witnessing a suicide attempt. Nissan Recalls 120K Vehicles; Fluid Leaks Can Cause Fires |
Nissan is recalling over 120,000 cars and SUVs in the U.S. because brake fluid could leak and cause fires. The company says that in some cases, owners should park their vehicles outside until they are repaired. The recall covers certain 2015 to 2017 Murano SUVs and 2016 to 2017 Maxima large cars that are equipped with intelligent cruise control. Also included are some 2015 and 2016 Murano hybrids. FAA Warns Airline Passengers Re: Samsung Smartphone |
U.S. aviation safety officials warned airline passengers not to turn on or charge a new-model Samsung smartphone during flights following numerous reports of the devices catching fire. The FAA also warned passengers not to put the Galaxy Note 7 phones in their checked bags, citing "recent incidents and concerns raised by Samsung" about the devices.
