Register now! | Products | | | Medical Device Recall Upped to Class 1 | | The Food and Drug Administration has classified a recall of medical devices placed in women's breasts as the most serious type of recall, Class I, due to the high probability that the product will cause severe health risks. The Axxent FlexiShield Mini was recalled in February after it was discovered that the device left particles of tungsten in women’s breasts, which can cause misdiagnosis in mammograms. There is little research into if tungsten is dangerous to the human body. Denise Grady, The New York Times 04/14/2011 | Read Article: The New York Times | Laws/Cases | | | Suit: Jacksonville Fire Department Discriminatory to Employees | | A group of Jacksonville, Fla., firefighters have filed a lawsuit against the city and the fire union, claiming the department's promotional process is discriminatory. The suit, filed by 12 African-America firefighters, claims "union officials collected and shared promotional exam questions with white firefighters but not black firefighters, corrupting the promotional exam's supposed secrecy." The suit is seeking unspecified damages. Paul Pinkham, Florida Times Union 04/14/2011 | Read Article: Florida Times Union | Sam's Club Settles $440,000 Lawsuit | | Wal-mart’s Sam's Club has agreed to a $440,000 settlement in a lawsuit that claimed that Mexican employees at the Fresno, Calif., store were subjected to discrimination. The lawsuit claimed the employees were racially insulted since 2005 by one of their coworkers. Wal-mart officials said the defendant has since been removed from his position. Paritosh Bansal, Reuters 04/14/2011 | Read Article: Reuters | Priest to the Stars Accused of Sexual Abuse | | A lawsuit has been filed against an Illinois priest accusing him of sexually abusing a child in the 1980s. The priest, Father Philip DeRea, is famous for “ministering to Indy car racing drivers and celebrities.” The suit claims the plaintiff contacted DeRea last year after the memories came flooding back, and DeRea apologized for his "misconduct" and sent him money to "keep him quiet." The lawsuit is seeking $75,000 in damages. Andrew Stern, Reuters 04/14/2011 | Read Article: Reuters | Suit: Woman Killed by Drunk Driver in Monster Truck | | A lawsuit has been filed over the death of a college student in Texas who was run over by a monster truck outside a local strip club in March. The girl was leaving the club when she was hit by another patron in a custom 2003 Ford F-250 truck. The lawsuit claims Eric Crutchfield, the driver of the truck, was intoxicated to more than double the legal limit and that his vehicle was not "street legal."
