Businesses Win Lawsuit Curbs With New Rules |
Companies notched a quiet win in December when the federal courts adopted rules intended to curb the scope of pretrial evidence requests, a change that could tip the scales in their decadeslong battle against consumer lawsuits. Greyhound to Pay $6M to Settle Bus Rollover Lawsuit |
Greyhound is to pay $6 million in a lawsuit over a crash that took place in Ohio in 2013 and injured at least 35 people. The bus rollover took place when the driver lost consciousness while driving and steered the bus into a cornfield. The bus was about 25 miles from Cincinnati on the way to Detroit when it crashed. Calif. Police Face Lawsuit by Kidnapped Woman |
A woman whose kidnapping was labeled a hoax by law enforcement has filed a lawsuit against the police department of Vallejo, California. The federal lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court on Tuesday by the woman and her boyfriend alleges that the police department ruined their reputations "through an outrageous and wholly unfounded campaign of disparagement." According to the complaint, instead of continuing an investigation into the woman's kidnapping after she was returned to her family, police labeled the event a hoax and discontinued their investigation. Four months later, the FBI apprehended the woman's kidnapper and determined that the woman's kidnapping was similar to a home invasion robbery in Dublin, California.
