Mom Says Dental Restraint Device Led to Child's Brain Damage |
On Jan. 6, Nevaeh Hall was running, playing and laughing. The next day, after a morning dental appointment, the 4 year old was in an ambulance en route to Texas Children's Hospital. Tests showed severe brain damage that the child's mother and her lawyer blame on the girl's confinement in a restraining device known as a papoose. Some dentists use the apparatus to immobilize children for procedures. Nevaeh has been diagnosed with dystonia, or involuntary muscle contractions, and remains in the hospital. Nevaeh's family hired an attorney about a month ago. He said Texas law prevents him from filing a civil action until a medical expert reviews the records and provides a report on the extent of the alleged liability. $400M Dispute Lingers Over Post-it Inventor |
Alan Amron holds 40 U.S. patents, but he's most interested in an invention for which he gets no credit: the Post-it Note, that ubiquitous sticky-back product made into a worldwide success by the 3M Company. Although Amron settled a previous lawsuit against 3M, he's suing again in federal court in Fort Lauderdale. He says the company breached its previous agreement not to take credit. The settlement is confidential. CURT ANDERSON, AP, Houston Chronicle 03/11/2016 |
